Introducing Milo: The running app for Apple runners
Introducing Milo: The running app for Apple runners
Like a lot of runners who start setting goals for races, paces, and everything in between, we got serious about training. Long runs, trail runs, structured workouts, marathon blocks. And the deeper we got, the more obvious the problem became.
Garmin had the training depth but felt stuck in the past. Apple Watch had the best hardware in the world, but no app designed for runners who expect more from their training. Nothing in the Apple world felt built for runners who actually care about improvement.
What is Milo?
Milo is a running companion built for runners who care about training. If you follow routes, run structured workouts, watch your paces, and actually want to improve, Milo handles the details so you can focus on the run itself. It guides you on where to go, how hard to run, and how to understand what happened afterward.
And it’s designed exclusively for the Apple ecosystem. For the first time, you can be a serious runner with an Apple Watch.
Routes
If you’ve ever trained for a race, you know how important routes are. Especially for long runs and trail days. Real-time guidance on your wrist removes the guesswork so you stay in the flow, never wondering where to turn or how to dodge endless stoplights. And when your long run has to hit a specific distance, routes make it easy. Need to get in 10K, 24K, whatever it is you know you’ll hit your weekly volume.
Importing routes is effortless. Connect Strava, tap the plus button in Routes, pick the route you want, select it on your phone and it appears instantly on your watch. No downloads. No files. No stress.
Workouts
Structured workouts are the backbone of real training. Intervals, hill repeats, tempo runs and long run variations make you stronger and faster. But on many platforms, building workouts felt fragile. One tiny mistake during setup and the entire session falls apart.
Milo removes all that noise. You can create the session you want or choose from AI-generated workouts tailored to your weekly volume, your performance and your goals. And following them on your wrist finally feels like the experience you’ve been waiting for.
You see your current interval, the next one coming and the lap you just ran. Everything you need is there and nothing gets in the way.
Workouts should make training easier, not more stressful.
Training Paces
Intensity defines training. Personalized training paces make it actionable.
Milo shows you the exact effort each run should target, so you always know why you’re running the way you are. Easy runs build real endurance, Threshold runs push you the right amount, Speed reps sharpen your form and power.
Each pace has a purpose, so your fitness moves forward without the friction of the tools holding you back.
Insights
We love data, but only when it is useful. Milo captures the essentials and goes deeper when it matters.
You get distance, pace, elevation, heart rate, and splits, plus deeper metrics like cadence, stride length, and ground contact time. We even track weather shifts, because a sudden heat spike can change everything.
And because Milo connects with Apple HealthKit, you can connect sleep and recovery data to see how lifestyle impacts performance.
The result is progress you can see and feel, helping you run farther, go faster, and train smarter.
Why Apple watches finally made this possible
We tested every major running device. Garmin, Coros, and Polar are powerful tools, but they feel like tools. They lack the modernity and ease of something you actually want to wear all day.
Apple changed that:
Apple Watch heart-rate accuracy beats most Garmins. Even on the SE.
GPS is as good as the top running watches, and dual-band makes it even sharper.
You get a bright color display and instant, seamless integration with your iPhone.
The hardware is best-in-class; it just never had software that truly unlocked it.
And you do not need to leave your world behind to track a run.
Apple delivered the hardware. We built the software that unlocks its full potential.
A few invisible details we are proud of!
Much of what makes Milo special is the part you never think about.
Robust tracking: If your battery dies, your data is still saved. You charge the watch, open Milo and continue without losing anything.
Accurate distance and GPS filtering: We spent countless hours building filters that remove jitter and noise, especially in cities. Your 10K should feel like a 10K when you upload it. No mysterious losses. No miscounted meters. No Strava tax.
Cross-device sync that feels effortless: Add a route on the web. Open your phone. It is already there. Look at your watch. It is ready to go. This takes a lot of attention to detail to get right, but it feels natural, which is exactly the point.
Prefer a full-size map or detailed splits while you run? Milo’s live phone view stays perfectly in sync with your watch. Something even the biggest players don’t offer.
Milo should feel reliably invisible. It should get out of your way so the run can take center stage.
Why we are excited and what comes next
We are building Milo for the running community, but also for ourselves. We train for marathons. We notice the details. Every run sparks another idea. And we see enormous opportunity for improvement in a space that has felt stagnant for years.
Running is the most popular fitness activity in the world right now. More people are getting into it, staying in it and caring about it. The sport deserves software that respects that commitment.
Our long-term plan is simple. Keep strengthening the experience, refining what already feels good, and of course adding features that make training smarter, not harder.
